Abstract

Rural education is closely connected with household income, employment opportunities, and regional development. This paper examines the economic challenges affecting rural education in Solapur district, Maharashtra. It focuses on the financial burden of schooling, household livelihood insecurity, educational infrastructure, digital access, and the transition from secondary education to higher education. The study uses a secondary-data-based research design, drawing on official district statistics, government education reports, and policy documents. It argues that improving rural education requires not only greater school enrolment but also sustained investment in affordability, infrastructure, digital inclusion, and educational continuity. The paper concludes with policy recommendations and a framework for future field research.
